Railway photography is something that never seems to lose popularity. In fact, it could be argued that it is more popular than ever as both a profession and leisurely hobby. Within various media outlets, such as the internet and magazine print, you can find plenty of topics around train photography such as photography and railway magazines. All levels are catered for, be it budding amateur or a long-time enthusiast. With the rise of digital technology, in particular, the advancements of the smartphone, it has become even easier for someone to become a railway photographer. Of course, some people want to take things to the next level, and purchase a camera especially for their railway photography, Its not just due to the possible quality upgrades, or the extra tools such as lenses that a dedicated camera will allow, some will prefer the much more ‘authentic’ option.
Railway photography perhaps crosses over to two very big genres of hobbies. You have the train enthusiasts (sometimes known as trainspotters) and the photographers. And of course, some people may be very passionate about both. Whether you are a newbie to this world or a veteran, you are certainly not alone and will have plenty of like-minded folks to keep you company and share your passions, there is a very large community that is welcoming and as enthusiastic as you likely are!
Taking train photos has been a passion of mine for many years, I enjoy taking photographs of heritage and mainline diesel trains but my main interest is steam train photos.
I hope that you all enjoy looking at these photographs as much as I had taken them.
